Senior Cloud Engineer

U.S. Citizen, Minimum Secret Clearance REQUIRED


Must either hold DoDM 8570.01 compliant certification(s) for IAT II (e.g. CompTIA Security+) and CSSP Infrastructure Support (e.g. CySA+) or obtain within 4 months of start date.


Remote position with occasional travel to duty site (Adelphi, MD) as required to support classified meetings or provide touch labor (less than 15% travel anticipated.)


Job Description:


As a Cloud DevOps Engineer within our Cybersecurity Division of SASSI, you will apply your cloud engineering and solutions development expertise to design, implement, and configure systems within AWS, Azure, Oracle, and other Cloud Service Provider environments. You will be a member of a highly capable development team working together to deploy virtual cybersecurity infrastructures delivered as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and which leverage containerization and orchestration tools and techniques to provision and integrate cloud native solutions.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


In this remote position supporting a DoD client based in the Washington metropolitan area you will provide direct and remote support to development and delivery code using DevSecOps tools, capabilities, and services within unclassified cloud hosted environments, supporting pipelines and delivery of code into classified cloud hosted environments in support of DoD's cyberspace defense efforts.   • Develop code for applications or enterprise-wide software systems using a disciplined development process, with an emphasis on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC) to deliver modern solutions to address both traditional IT challenges and emerging cyber threats.

  • Create innovative solutions to facilitate refactoring of legacy IT systems and software to leverage modern design patterns employing Kubernetes, Orchestration & Automation, Microservices, Virtualization etc.

  • Contribute to and review deployment plans for installation, upgrades, and fixes.

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to understand project objectives, gather automation requirements, design automated tests, troubleshoot issues, and implement scalable automation solutions.

  • Support projects focused on private, multi-tenant, and multi-site solutions utilizing mixed OS environments (Windows and Linux.)

  • Define and implement efficient end-to-end provisioning of automation solutions.

  • Participate in project planning meetings and provide input to project timelines and process development.

  • Assist with identification, refinement, and scoping of technical requirements

  • Translate complex business requirements into multiple solution options and explain the pros/cons of various approaches to stakeholders

  • Conduct Proof of Concept demonstrations to visualize approach and help solidify technical direction.

  • Establish, maintain, and grow partnerships with the Build, Operations, and Engineering teams to drive service delivery, sustainment, and improvement

  • Remain current on IT trends pertaining to the area of practice (e.g., DevOps, Cloud, Microservices, Kubernetes, containers etc.)

  • Support testing efforts across the life cycle.

  • Ensure code and configurations are in compliance with all applicable standards, policies and procedures.

  • Perform code reviews and provide feedback to peers in an organized and professional manner.

  • Identify opportunities for and contribute to automation processes and procedures for on premise and cloud solutions (VMware, Azure, AWS)

  • Assist with the creation of technical design specifications and other engineering documentation to satisfy project requirements

  • Be willing to travel on rare occasions to support client driven, classified meetings.

  • Must hold a minimum Secret clearance

  • Experience supporting network security within USG special programs

  • Must hold DoDM 8570.01 compliant certification(s) for IAT II (e.g. CompTIA Security+) and CSSP Infrastructure Support or be willing to obtain within 4 months of start date.

  • Must have previously held a position in programming/development w/ 4-8 years of relevant experience.

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or:

  • A Master’s Degree in a related discipline w/ 2 years of relevant work experience.

  • Additional relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of degree

  • Strong candidates have the following additional professional or academic experience:

  • 1+ year(s) of experience with Cloud technologies, platforms, providers etc.

  • 3-5+ years of experience automating IT administration, IT processes, or business processes

  • 3-5+ years of experience managing or maintaining enterprise IT infrastructure (Servers, Storage, Network, and/or Security)

Technical Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements:

  • Experience in Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, JSON or YAML.

  • Experience in Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform

  • Experience with automation platforms including Ansible, Puppet, Salt-Stack, Azure Automation, AWS Cloud Formation, or similar.

  • Experience automating / integrating a broad range of systems and services

  • Ability to design, develop and test applications using proven or emerging technologies, in a variety of technologies and environments

  • Advanced knowledge of Object-Orient Design Patterns and use cases for applying them

  • Experience in developing against API for cross function requirements. (VMWare, Azure, AWS)

  • Experience with containerized application development.

  • Understanding of foundational networking concepts DNS, TCP/IP, Routing, Firewalls, etc.

  • Proficient and timely communication skills.

  • Problem solving ability to analyze and interpret complex problems or processes, identify and understand requirements and develop alternate solutions.

  • Experience with/knowledge of DoD

  • Familiarity with Agile SDLC (both Kanban and Scrum)

  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline tools (ie: Git, Jenkins, Artifactory)

  • Experience with provisioning, configuring, managing cloud services such as AWS EC2; S3; ELB; VPCs; Subnets; SG; IAM; KMS; Cloud Watch; Cloud Trail; VPC Flow (or Azure equivalents)

  • 1 or more years of experience with process orchestration

  • Experience with QA and/or application testing including unit, integration, performance testing and other similar disciplines

  • Experience with Kubernetes-based containerized application development

  • Experience with automating container deployment, specifically through the use of Helm Charts

  • Knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL database systems

  • Experience with commonly used DoD endpoint/network security tools

  • Experience with Container Monitoring and Security Tools employed in Cloud environments

  • Experience with virtualization environments (VMware, Azure IaaS, AWS IaaS)

  • Architectural experience including the creation of DoD or industry standard architectural artifacts using tools such as DrawIO, Powerpoint, Visio etc.

  • Experience with Identity/Access Management Tools

$130,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
